Hey, I’m looking forward to discussing many kinds of political issues. I myself am a conservative, but I’m excited to get to hear from the other side about things we may disagree on. I think the atmosphere for conservatives on VCU has gotten better, and it’s only up from here. This platform is going to help a lot, I believe.

    • I don’t identify with a political party because I don’t believe any party genuinely has the people interests first just their own. Specifically with the Republican Party as I feel like they don’t live up to their actual values. For example I don’t believe you can say that you believe in less government and then vote for laws the create voting restrictions on black people. I don’t believe this is a majority of regular republicans but a lot in power are doing things like this and average republicans/ conservative citizens are ignoring it which causes black people to not want to align with them but the democrats are no better as they do shady things too. With all this I end with a question do you like they direction the Republican Party is going ?

      • As of right now, yes, but that’s not a very enthusiastic yes. I believe that Trump’s loss and the storming of the Capitol by (for lack of a classier term) idiots is helping the Republican Party cleanse itself in a way. It’s waking the party up to the fact that it can’t gatekeep one way of conservatism over others. This kind of “you’re not Republican enough” has made the party extreme and close-minded in some aspects. I say yes to your final question because the current Republican candidates for Governor, Attorney General, and Lieutenant Governor are level-headed choices to represent the party. As someone who kept up with the nomination process, I can say there were some VERY inflammatory, Trump-like candidates that deserved to lose the nomination. Amanda Chase is one of them. One last thing I’ll add, too, is that I value your position. As a black conservative, there are things I don’t like about either party when it comes to race issues especially. It’s the reason why I think there’s a distinction between conservative and Republican and why I don’t call myself a Republican necessarily
