Being Sudanese has had a different meaning after 2011, when the split happened. I was only a child, so I didn’t understand what was going on. Although no country is perfect, it made me less patriotic about my home country from the issues that the Sudanese government and people imposed on the South Sudanese people. I believe that especially after what happened to Akok and his family in Egypt, that we as Sudanese and Egyptians need to work hard to put resources and money into the South.
